KWOC | Kharagpur Winter Of Code Project Report.
What is KWOC
KWOC — Kharagpur Winter of Code is a 5-week long online program organized by KOSS for the students of various colleges, especially for students of IIT Kharagpur, who are new to open source software development.
About Me
I am Nishant Mishra, a Web developer and an Open-source contributor who grew up in India and now find myself ‘across the pond’ as a graduate student at the Vellore Institute of Technology, where I soak in the engineering field while pursuing a B.Tech in Computer Science.
Selecting Projects
Over the month, we were provided with a lot of projects, and we had to choose as many as we want. Having learned Web technologies, I wanted to try projects which were web development based.
There were a few projects that I wanted to try, namely DarkSite
and Productivity-meter
.Some of them were quite utility based, so I wanted to try and understand the code and add features as possible
Summary of my work
I started off my KWOC contribution by adding google offline fonts in the Darksite project. Soon, I started to make Github Repositories better by adding some Issues and PR templates. I contributed to the UI to the Productivity-meter project and updated its whole UI. The mentor liked my work and also guided me with many new ideas to add to the UI. I also improved the code modularity of the Darksite Project.
List of Projects I contributed in
Thanks to all the mentors for their immense support and guidance @Raghwnedra Dey and @Rahul Gorai.
It was a great learning experience for me. I want to thank KOSS, IIT Kharagpur for conducting this beginner-friendly program. This program helped me to learn what open source projects are and how to contribute to them.
